An individual built 17 Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers as thin Cloudflare Workers, each wrapping a free public data source (e.g., SEC EDGAR, openFDA) into callable tools for AI agents. The architecture uses MCP-over-HTTP JSON-RPC endpoints, with shared quota metering and payment integration via Stripe. The approach enables rapid creation of multiple AI-accessible data tools with low marginal cost, serving different buyer segments. The hardest part was designing the right tool interfaces per data source to balance specificity and composability. Distribution involved listing products on multiple MCP directories, some requiring manual submission. Economics show break-even at about one paying customer per product at $9/month. The project is in launch stage with zero paying customers so far.
