We started working with Dota 2 because we expected it to be a good testbed for developing general-purpose AI technologies⁠. It has additionally turned out to be a great avenue for helping people experience modern AI—which we expect to become a high-stakes part of people’s lives in the future, starting with systems like self-driving cars.

As part of the event, we’re honored to compete against the reigning Dota 2 world champions, OG⁠(opens in a new window), who will test OpenAI Five at the limits of human ability. We’ll also be joined by Blitz⁠(opens in a new window), Capitalist⁠(opens in a new window), ODPixel⁠(opens in a new window), Purge⁠(opens in a new window), and Sheever⁠(opens in a new window). Games will be played with rules similar to those used for the OpenAI Five matches at The International 2018⁠.

OpenAI Five Finals will be hosted in the Bay Area on April 13. The event will run from 11:30am to about 4pm (exact length depends on game duration). Doors will open at 11am.
